County Council gives initial OK to casino plan
|
After some late uncertainty, the St. Louis County Council Tuesday night gave initial approval to Pinnacle Entertainment's proposal to build a $300 million casino, hotel and shopping complex in Lemay.
Council member John Campisi, R-south St. Louis County, had been threatening to withhold his support. But he agreed Tuesday to approve the project and said if he had to, he would divert the casino's rental payments to a foundation that would support South County schools.
Both a resolution and an ordinance favoring the proposal passed 5-2. Two longtime opponents, Kurt Odenwald, R-Shrewsbury, and Greg Quinn, R-Ballwin, voted against it.
